A few years ago Anna Cathcart watched WE Day from her Vancouver classroom. Now, she’s hosting the show.
From playing the confident Kitty in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and its much-anticipated Netflix sequel, To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, to being named one of Instagram’s 19under19, Cathcart has had a whirlwind few years.
But when she’s not walking the red carpet at the MTV Movie Awards or winning Canadian Screen Awards, the 16-year-old is just a regular high schooler. “It’s like having two full-time jobs at once,” shares the Descendants 3 actor. Busy though she is, Cathcart is never too Hollywood to make time for school and her passion for learning.
In fact, that part of her life helps balance everything else. As she says, “A good teacher can change your whole school year.” Given their impact, ensuring educators have all they need to do their job is something the actress sees as a clear win. “If the teachers have the resources they need, then the kids will have the resources they need.”
Backstage at WE Day Vancouver, Cathcart opens up about strong female role models (like the fictional Kitty!) and the part teachers play in shaping her generation—a job she sums up as “definitely big!”
